Evil Everywhere
As soon as Elise exited the back door, the black cat leapt from the sunny bench and trotted down the path toward Awen’s Pond. Elise followed at a leisurely pace, breathing in the scents of the forest—pine, cedar, sweet shrub, and loamy earth.
As she strolled through the woods surrounding Wren’s Roost, Elise’s heart rate slowed. Soon after, the buzzing in her temples calmed and her thoughts quieted. The black cat stayed in front of her, close enough that Elise spotted a flick of its tail now and then.
